Slow Cooker Smokehouse Brisket

In my experience, nothing says summer’s coming like the mouth-watering aroma of freshly-smoked beef. One whiff and you’re ready to knock off work, open a beverage, pull up a patio chair, and settle in. Smokehouse briskets take time—which is a huge part of the appeal. You can’t rush smoked brisket, but you can bring the great taste (and smells!) of the traditional outdoor smokehouse indoors with this clever slow-cooker recipe.

Get ready to get hands-on: beef brisket requires a bit of trimming and manipulation to get the cut just right, but you can ask your butcher to help you out if you’re feeling any trepidation about the fat-trimming. Try this recipe with one of our diverse variations to coax out your preferred flavor—from traditional Carolina BBQ to tangy Midwest cookout. Slow Cooker Smokehouse BBQ Brisket

From The Spice & Tea Exchange®Slow Cooker Smokehouse Brisket
1 oz. Smokehouse Rub
1 tsp. Worcestershire Powder

From the Grocer:
1 (5 lb.) beef brisket, trimmed

2 cups salsa, prepared (any style)
¼ cup beef broth
½ cup light brown sugar

TRIM brisket of any excess fat. In a large zipper top bag, combine Smokehouse Rub, Worcestershire Powder, salsa, beef broth, and light brown sugar. Add trimmed brisket to mixture in bag, and seal. Massage bag to distribute mixture around brisket. Place in refrigerator 2-4 hours to marinate.

PLACE brisket and marinade mixture into slow cooker, cover and cook on high for 5-6 hours, or until fully cooked.
TRANSFER brisket to a carving board, cover loosely with aluminum foil, and let rest 10 minutes before slicing. Skim and discard any excess fat from accumulated sauce in slow cooker.
SLICE brisket across the grain, and serve, ladling sauce over top.
