Easy Picnic Food Ideas the Family Will Love

Summer is a great time of year to partake in alfresco dining, and picnics provide a fun way to dine outdoors that the entire family will enjoy. Skip the fancy picnic layouts you see in magazines and cookbooks and opt for a laid-back meal with delicious yet simple foods that are sure to please both you and your kids.

Whether you’re having a casual family picnic at the park or are planning a tea-themed birthday party for your child, these picnic food recipes below will be perfect for your outdoor gathering. They’re also easy to prep ahead so you can relax and have a stress-free experience.

 

Chicken Wraps (3 Variations: Coastal Chicken, Fiesta Chicken, Ranch Chicken

 

Yield: 8 Wraps

 

For Coastal Chicken Wrap Only (optional egg salad garnish)

CHOP hard-boiled eggs and transfer to a medium bowl. Mash slightly with a fork to break up yolks.

ADD boiled eggs, mustard, and lemon juice to coastal dressing and stir until eggs are evenly mashed and dressed.

SPREAD a large spoonful of egg salad onto flour tortillas before adding garnishes.

 

For All Three Wraps

MIX Coastal Blend Seasoning, Fiesta Taco Seasoningor Rustic Garden Ranch with buttermilk and mayonnaise and mix until well combined.

SPREAD a large spoonful of dressing onto flour tortillas.

ADD sliced chicken, and optional garnishes to wrap and fold over.

PLACE prepared wraps on parchment paper and roll up tightly, tie with twine and slice wrap in half.

 

Ingredients: 

 

Coastal Chicken: (optional egg salad garnish)

  • 2 Flour Tortilla  Shells
  • 1 chicken breast, sliced thin
  • 6 hard-boiled eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. yellow mustard
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 2 parchment paper sheets
  • Precut twine, as needed

 

Optional Garnishes:

  • Cucumber and carrots, thinly sliced
  • butter lettuce, shredded

 

Ranch Chicken Wrap

  • 2 flour tortilla shells
  • 1 grilled chicken breast, sliced thin
  • 2 parchment paper sheets
  • Precut twine, as needed

 

Optional Garnishes:

  • Cucumber, gala apple and carrots, thinly sliced
  • red cabbage, shredded

 

 Fiesta Chicken Wrap

  • 2 flour tortilla shells
  • 1 grilled chicken breasts, sliced thin
  • 2 parchment paper sheets
  • Precut twine, as needed

 

Optional Garnishes:

  • sweet grape tomatoes, sliced in half
  • avocado, thinly sliced
  • sliced cheese

 

 

 

 Blackberry & Watermelon Smoothie Popsicles

Yield: 12 popsicles

Preparation: Place all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until smooth. Pour smoothie blend into popsicle molds and freeze  4-6 hours, or overnight.

Ingredients: 

 

Blackberry Smoothie Popsicles: 

  • 2  cups blackberries, fresh
  • 1 cup  blueberries, fresh
  • 2  Tbsp. Blackberry Sugar 
  • 2 cups of filtered water
  • 2 Tbsp. mint leaves, fresh

 

 

Watermelon Smoothie Popsicles:

  • 2 cups watermelon, cubed
  • 2 Tbsp. Watermelon Sugar 
  • 2 cups of filtered water
  • 2 Tbsp. mint leaves, fresh

 

 

Matcha Sandwich Cookies

Yield: 12 Cookies

 

Preparation:

 

  • Mix butter, Madagascar Pure Vanilla Extract, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Sift Matcha into the mixture to ensure there are no lumps.
  • Using either a piping bag or a spoon, place a dollop of frosting in the center of a wafer cookie.
  • Top with another cookie, making sure to apply even pressure so that you do not break the cookies.

Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Cookies will stay crisp for 2 days (after 3 days they will begin to soften, but still taste delicious!)

Fruit Pizza

Preparation: For each 8-serving fruit pizza, cut the watermelon into 8 triangular wedges. Spread a generous amount of vanilla yogurt on each watermelon slice then top with fresh blueberries and kiwi slices, strawberries and other desired fresh fruits. Sprinkle Red Raspberry and Wild Blueberry Sugar on top or any other infused sugar such as Watermelon, Blackberry, or Pineapple Sugar.

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 Watermelon
  • Blueberries, as desired
  • Strawberries, as desired
  • Kiwi, as desired
  • Vanilla Yogurt

 

Fruit Kebobs

Yield: 8-12 Kebabs

Preparation: Wash fruit and cut cantaloupe, pineapple, kiwi and other desired fruit into bitesize cubes.  Skewer the cubed fruits, clementine slices, and whole grapes in order of the rainbow.   (remember ROY G BIV!).

Preparation: Using a cookie cutter, cut out fun shapes and patterns out of bread and set aside. Spread Nutella onto half of the bread slices, then sprinkle Red Raspberry Sugar on Nutella and top with remaining bread slices.
