March 2015 Franchisee Highlight

March 13

Meet Glenn & Kim Gordon!

gordons_mountdora_fl_thespice&teaexchange
Glenn and Kim are The Spice & Tea Exchange®’s newest multi-unit owners and are celebrating the opening of their new store in Mount Dora, FL.

After spending the last 20+ years in sales, customer service, and management, Glenn and Kim opened their first The Spice & Tea Exchange® store in Tarpon Springs, FL in 2013. For the Gordons, this was an opportunity to work together as a family.

“For me, it provided the opportunity to leave my corporate job and become a full time business owner in which I desired to be for a long time,” Glenn commented. Kim, who served in ministry and homeschooled their children, jumped right into the role of Spice Master and several of the Gordon children followed to participate in the new family business!

What inspired you to open another store?
We realized after only 6 months in our first store that we had found not only a great business model we loved but it was something that we knew could be duplicated in other locations.

What are you most excited about with the new Mount Dora location?
We really love the Mount Dora, FL area. The whole process from finding the town and store location to now has been truly a great experience for us. The overwhelming support we’ve had to get the store open in less than a month, From The Spice & Tea Exchange® Corporate (Clay, Amy and everyone else), Vince and Jason getting the build out done in 2 weeks (by the way, they did an amazing job) and Steve & Penny and the awesome crew at the warehouse. On top of all of that, the people and other store owners in Mount Dora have been amazing as well.

What is your favorite TSTE® product?
Glenn- Backwoods on different meats for my smoker.
Kim- Florida Sunshine!

March 13

Meet Jennifer Nicholson!

JenniN_TheSpice&TeaExchange

Jenni started at The Spice & Tea Exchange® in May 2013. As the Product Information Specialist, Jenni oversees the release of new products to the franchise system. She also tests and photographs our bi-monthly recipes, maintains and updates the nutrition database, adds/removes/maintains new products on our website, and helps with maintaining product information, labeling, photography, STIR postings and descriptive copywriting.

What do you like most about your job?
Not only do I enjoy what I’m doing, but I feel like my job makes a difference. My own food allergies may have felt like a hindrance to me elsewhere but they are actually a strength in my position because they help me properly and accurately label allergens as well as help me explain to guests how our products are processed and what they can safely consume with allergies. I am an advocate of natural health (Paleo, gluten-free, clean eating, etc.) in my personal life, so I feel like this also helps me understand and be able to explain some of our guest’s questions and concerns as they relate to our products.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time I enjoy cooking, studying nutrition, photography, tennis, crafts, and the beach.

What’s your favorite TSTE® product?
My favorite is our Himalayan Fine Mineral Salt (although it was a close call with Cinnamon Plum Tea)!

Jenni came to The Spice & Tea Exchange® with a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Food Systems and Technology with a concentration in Food Communications and a minor in Journalism. In the last five years, she has worked two internships: one for the Taste of Home (Reader’s Digest) test kitchen and another for a small firm called Foodlaunch (leading into a PR position). She also worked at both Sanwa Farmer’s Market in marketing, PR, and social media and did freelance marketing work for an organic gardening product, BugVibes™.
